Convenience with At-Home Teeth Whitening Kits
Defined Tag: Teeth Whitening Kits. Nothing gives a bigger boost than having a beautiful smile. However, our lifestyle most often leaves us with stained and yellowed teeth. Dentists can bring back the sparkle, but how many can actually afford this procedure? This is where teeth whitening kits come to the rescue. Teeth whitening is mainly achieved by applying a bleaching substance, carbamide peroxide, to the teeth’s surface. When the product gets in contact with the teeth, it foams and breaks down, the oxygen released therein allowing stains to be broken down. Professionals use this very product in their practice. It is placed on trays that are molded to the client’s teeth. The trays when fitted into the mouth, allow even exposure of the product to the teeth’s surface. Kits allow for the same procedure, but without half of the hassle resulting from the need to visit a dentist. Teeth whitening kits allow one to bleach one’s teeth in the comfort of the home, at one’s convenience, and at generally half, or even less, of the cost a professional would charge. Kits can be bought in pharmacies, or can be ordered online from the many suppliers available on the Internet. The kits contain carbamide peroxide gel, in towers or already placed in ready-to-use syringes; customizable trays, and detailed instructions. Some kits allow for one to order customized molds from a professional lab. These are generally more comfortable and precise for use. However, thermo-foam moldable trays, the other, cheaper, alternative, are becoming more and more popular. These trays need to be placed in boiling water, to allow them to soften. A mold of the teeth is then taken on the tray, and provides a customized fit when it solidifies again. The bleaching gel is applied to the tray, and has to be placed on the teeth for 20-30 minutes. In some cases, the use of a light device to further activate the gel is used in kits too. Results from using teeth whitening kits are usually long lasting. However, the results may not be as dramatic as when professionally done. Carbamide peroxide is usually less concentrated in kits’ gel, as opposed to the ones for professional use. To ensure lighter teeth, the kits should be used everyday for at least two weeks. Kits when used at home do not guarantee immediately striking a result as professional bleaching. Dentists’ bleaching is longer, precisely because it is being supervised by a professional. The home kits, also because they use less concentrated gels, should be used every day for at least 2 weeks to see dramatic results. Appearance can last up to a year or more. A combination of the 3 above mentioned home teeth whitening strategies can be used in conjunction, to ensure better results. Further lifestyle changes, such as cutting down on staining agents such as tobacco, colas, tea and coffee, can also help in this quest.
